Description
The Alpine A110 was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1962. Nicknamed the Berlinette, it was just 1.13 metres high and 3.85 metres long. Thanks to the use of fibreglass for the body, a central tubular steel frame chassis and the rear engine from the Renault 8, the total starting weight was 565 kg. Alpine was founded by Jean Rédélé, a Frenchman based in Dieppe who was an enthusiastic participant in rallying in the post-World War II era. The Alpine achieved international fame, competing (in the newly created) International Championship for Manufacturers, winning events across Europe and earning a reputation as one of the strongest rally cars of its day. Notable performances included a victory in the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally.
