Description

The new postwar reality in Europe meant that Alfa Romeo shifted from large, costly cars to smaller ones in order to survive. The result was the remarkable Giulietta of 1954, which brought Alfa Romeo’s sporting heart to bear in a handsome 1,300 cc package that combined glamour, technology, and affordability. Available as an upright sedan or beautiful sprint and spider versions styled by Bertone and Pinin Farina respectively, the Giulietta’s athletic chassis and high-revving alloy twin-cam engine with hemispherical combustion chambers democratized sophisticated Italian performance on both sides of the Atlantic.

Like many of these cars, this early production Sprint was originally delivered in the US, being supplied new to New York. Originally finished in the same shade of Capri Blue that it wears today, the car retains its matching-numbers engine, both characteristics which are confirmed by its Alfa Romeo Certificato di Origine. Under the consignor’s ownership, this Giulietta was extensively restored by Alfa Italia Inc. of Burbank, California, in 2015–2016, with a subsequent engine rebuild carried out in 2019.

As it was developed during its production, the Giulietta lost a number of charming and beautiful features, making this early 750-series example particularly desirable. This, coupled with its original engine and striking original color, give this Sprint a unique appeal for the enthusiast seeking to experience the origin of Alfa Romeo’s postwar glory years.
