Exiting the American market in 1995 after a disappointing stretch of building sedans and hatchbacks, rumors began stirring at the dawn of the millennium that the once-revered Alfa Romeo marque would make a triumphant return to North America. Those rumors would be substantiated in 2003, when Alfa Romeo 8C debuted as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show to universal acclaim, later appearing in open-top form two years later at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance with a commitment reconfirming Alfa's presence in North America. The all-new 8C owed its beautifully proportioned carbon-fiber bodywork to in-house designer Wolfgang Egger, and its name to the highly prized straight-eight Alfas of the 1930s.

Alfa Romeo devotees were thrilled when the production of both variants was confirmed, and within weeks, plans were finalized for production of 500 examples of the Competizione coupe and a further 500 open-topped Spiders. Customer deliveries of the Competizione began in 2007, with the Spider following two years later. In the end just 329 examples of Spider were produced. Both versions were powered by an enlarged version of the Ferrari-built 4.7-liter V8 utilized in the Maserati Quattroporte and GranTurismo. The 'F136 YC' engine sends 444 horsepower to the same six-speed, semi-automatic gearbox used in the Ferrari 599 Fiorano, located ahead of the rear axle for an ideal 50/50 weight distribution. The Spider is further enhanced by a strengthened chassis with relocated springs and dampers, and carbon ceramic brakes to ensure it would deliver the same driving dynamics as the coupe. As a result, the Spider sprints from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 180 miles per hour while allowing the driver to take full advantage of the V8 soundtrack.

This 2010 8C Spider was finished in the wonderful, optional metallic color of Rosso 8C, complemented by red braided leather sports seats and contrasting black stitching, along with a black convertible top. Additionally, it comes loaded with optional extras including Alfa Romeo's distinctive quadrifoglio emblem painted on the front fenders, red brake calipers, 20-inch "dark shining" five-spoke alloy racing wheels, satellite navigation, and cabin floor mats. Today, the car presents in excellent, show-quality condition having covered only 204 miles from new. In keeping with its factory-fresh presentation, this 8C is accompanied by two matching red braided leather garment bags as well as its original car cover, owner's manuals, keys, and other factory accessories for the convertible top. Limited to only 500 examples and showing a mere 210 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging, there is unlikely to be a lower mileage and better preserved example currently offered for sale anywhere in the world.
