AC was not in the best of places at the end of the 60’s. The Cobra successes were weakening and a new sales topper was urgently needed. The combination of a British chassis paired with a fat American V8 was much to everyones liking. To add some cachet they decided to engage Piero Frua for their next design. In 1965 he came up with the AC 428 Convertible, followed later by this lovely Fastback Coupé.First impressions are reminiscent of the Maserati Mistral, despite the fact they only share the front quarter windows and door handles. The AC 428 was designed as the ultimate British GT.

This car has been the same nurturing ownership for the last 11 years. The bodywork presents perfectly. The nice and thin panelwork is correctly aligned. For purely cosmetic reasons the car has been resprayed. The paintwork has a nice lustre with only a few minor signs of normal use. The AC sports lovely wire wheels shod in correctly sized good quality rubber.

The AC’s interior has remained very much original. The leather has been properly cared for over time and is still delightfully supple. Good quality carpets fit neatly. The great ergonomic dashboard is beautifully shaped. All gauges and switching gear is in good working order.

Mechanically the car has not wanted for anything over the years. The good running engine has a supple 3-speed automatic to transfer all its might. The 7.0 litre V8 was supplied by Ford and manages to produce 345 Ps. This AC is no slouch measured to current standards. The handling has a high comfort factor. That does not imply the car becomes vague at higher speeds, this is a proper GT. The faster it goes the more the AC comes into its own. The brakes are more than adequate to cope with shedding the speed, giving lots of confidence.

AC only sold 49 of the 428 Fastback coupés, with only 40 still around today. To put it another way this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the 49 most gorgeous British coupés ever produced. A car in good condition that guaranteed will provide many more years of classic driving pleasure.
