THIS CAR
As the interest in unrestored, preservation-quality vehicles continues to soar, it has been notably difficult to find such examples of the Porsche marque, as Stuttgart’s sports cars are beloved drivers’ cars that generally have been used with great zeal. The scarcity of unscathed and relatively unused examples is part of what makes this 930 Turbo so appealing, as the car claims a highly original state of mechanical and cosmetic condition, extremely low mileage, and many desirable factory options. Additionally, this striking 930 features a vibrant and attractive color combination that is distinctively unique.

As confirmed by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 3.3-liter Turbo was finished at the factory in Light Blue Metallic paint and trimmed with a blue leather interior. Equipped with the California-specification type 930/63 engine, a limited-slip differential, rare sports seats, and an electric sunroof, this Porsche was sold new to Dr. Douglas Cardoza of Santa Rosa, California, through Veale Porsche + Audi. His name and address are hand-written in the car’s original warranty and maintenance booklet, which is also stamped with service entries through 1997.

Dr. Cardoza retained possession of this powerful turbocharged Porsche 930 for 24 years, meticulously maintaining the car and only occasionally driving it. As reflected by accompanying invoices, when he commissioned a major engine-out servicing in September 2002, the odometer displayed just 8,931 miles, which are believed to be original. In 2003, the 930 was sold to the consignor, a well-known Porsche enthusiast, before it passed in 2004 to a collector in New York. Four years later, the Turbo was purchased by collector Richard Brandeis of Georgia.

Eventually reacquired by the consignor, the 930 was exhibited twice during summer 2014. The car scored 243 out of 250 possible points in preservation competition at the Porsche Club of America concours at Monterey Bay and took Second in Class at the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue. The Light Blue Metallic paint – said to be almost entirely original – continues to shine with a deep finish to this day, while the bright blue leather upholstery remains in outstanding condition throughout.

Accompanied by its original window sticker, the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a file of service invoices, original tools, air compressor, and owner’s manuals, this exceptional 930 Turbo is one of 806 examples specified for the US in 1979. It is ideally suited for preservation-class exhibition at finer concours and Porsche events, where its low mileage (under 11,000 miles) and extremely original condition promise to draw admiration and acclaim.
