Description

The 1973 introduction of the second-generation Bonneville model represented a return to form for Triumph’s Meridien works. The new T140 models were well received, thanks to their powerful 744 cc engines, capable disc brakes, five-speed gearbox with modern left-side shift, and outstanding performance for value. Beginning in January 1978, Triumph unveiled the updated T140E model, the “E” standing for “emissions compliant,” as the model was designed to meet the latest US EPA regulations. This new variant featured a host of revisions including a new cylinder head, redesigned Amal carburetors, and an upgraded ignition system, but retained the same traditional qualities buyers expected from a Triumph Bonneville.

Produced in February 1978, this T140E is a fine example of these rare US-specification Bonneville 750 models. Reported to be in well-preserved, unrestored condition and showing just 1,564 miles when catalogued, the Triumph is attractively presented and features blue and silver paintwork, chrome mud guards, and classic Smiths instrumentation. Benefiting from a recent service and offered today from the private collection of a noted American racing driver, this Bonneville 750 is accompanied by its original owner’s manual. Combining vintage character with more modern safety and convenience features, this T140E represents an ideal entry into Triumph ownership.
