Bikes made by Ducati formed the basis of serial Superbike World Championship victories in the 1990s. Factory rider Carl Fogarty sealed consecutive title crowns for the manufacturer, first straddling the iconic 916 and then upon the later 996. Competition success accelerated demand for Ducati’s road-going models, and the race-winning ‘bike was offered to customers in homologation form as the 996 SPS/F.

The “Sport Production Special” was lighter and more powerful than the standard 996, itself bringing weight-saving and engine improvements over the earlier 916. The motorcycle had all the ingredients of an out-and-out track monster, and many of the 150 limited edition examples were bought by customers exclusively for use on motorsport circuits. The 996 SPS/F could be tamed, though, and was supplied with features necessary for road registration.

The example offered here is numbered 014 of just 150 machines made by Ducati. Presented in timeless Ducati red-and-white with grey frame and wheels, complemented by hints of gold, the 996 SPS/F looks every inch the championship winner.
