If we told you the following recipe — carbon fibre chassis, quad-turbo V12 engine, and four wheel drive — most would think we’re describing a modern-day hypercar, but that’s exactly what Bugatti equipped the EB 110 GT with when it debuted in 1991. It was as bleeding edge as poster cars come, and it had to be to justify a price tag that would leave you with change after purchasing two Ferrari Testarossas. 

Perhaps it was its immense value, or maybe the intimidation factor, but chassis #071 sat undriven for 17 years in the Kuwaiti Emir’s estate until Art & Revs discovered it with just 7,000 km on the clock. Its drivetrain had seen better days, as had almost all the rubber and plastic components, and so in February 2024 Art & Revs embarked on an exhaustive restoration that drew on their many years of experience restoring race cars from the 1960s all the way to the 2010s. 

Every single part of the car was meticulously verified, cleaned, and restored with painstaking attention to detail when it came to original metal treatments and materials. By March the decision to enter the car into The Quail was made, and so the team had to rapidly source parts from across the globe, and by late June the chassis and bodywork had been returned to its former glory. Four short weeks later, and the all the sub assemblies were fitted, and finally the time came for the 3.5-litre 553 horsepower V12 to roar back to life. 

Now this EB 110 GT is looking just as fabulous as the day it left Campogalliano, so don’t be surprised if you see a maroon missile blur past you on the streets of Monterey this week.
