German Porsche tuning specialist Gemballa has announced its latest ‘power kit’ – the Gemballa Turbo GT 550, developed for the current 997 Turbo. The kit comprises an aerodynamic package and an extra helping of power, achieved through a newly developed stainless steel exhaust system, plus a modified engine management set-up. The result is a claimed 550bhp and 780Nm of torque from the 997 Turbo’s 3.6-litre, 6-cylinder engine.

The Turbo GT 550 requires less than 3.8 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 km/h or, with overboost, a startling 3.6 seconds becomes possible. Top speed is a claimed 318km/h, some 8km/h faster than the production version. Meanwhile the aerodynamic enhancements include a Gemballa-designed front spoiler, side-skirts and discreet air inlets, increasing the flow of cooling air to tyres and brakes. Perhaps the most striking aerodynamic change, however, is to the rear wing. Openings at the base supply additional air to help the turbocharged engine breathe, while above these the dramatic main spoiler creates additional downforce on the rear axle.

Changes to the tailgate skirt include the use of a ‘racing grille’ which makes more of the exhaust system visible and emphasises the powerful tail-pipes. In place of the standard Porsche’s 19-inch wheels, the Turbo GT 550 boasts 20-inch Black Edition wheels with stainless steel rim flanges. Gemballa also fits adjustable coilover suspension to help lower the centre of gravity and hence enhance the handling. A modified braking system is currently under development.

Finally, inside the cabin, Gemballa has fitted a new sports steering wheel with a diameter of 340mm. Further customised conversions are available on request.
