The C63 AMG Mercedes will be enhanced not only by the new C-Class design, but by a wealth of technological upgrades, such as AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sports transmission with ‘Controlled Efficiency’ mode as standard, and a new power steering pump which helps to improve combined fuel consumption by a staggering 10 per cent – to 23.5mpg (or 22.9 for the Estate).
While the power of the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine is unchanged at 457HP, the optional AMG Performance package ups this to 487HP. Plump for this, and your 0-62mph time will drop from 4.5 seconds to 4.4 (or from 4.6 to 4.5 in the Estate). A small but significant change.
Lookswise, the face of the latest-generation C63 AMG borrows heavily from the SL63 AMG roadster: new radiator grille with a large Mercedes star, wing-type transverse louvre, new AMG front apron, plus AMG daytime running lights and side air-outlets. The bonnet, with modified powerdomes, is now in aluminium.
From the side, the view is dominated by wide front wings, bearing 6.3 AMG branding, and new, 5 twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels in titanium grey. The rear view is also SL63 AMG-esque, with a rear apron featuring a distinctive, black diffuser insert with three pronounced diffuser fins. And, of course, two chromed twin tailpipes.
The suspension has also been tweaked, with the aim of giving better ride comfort as well as retaining the characteristic AMG driving dynamics. Technophiles, meanwhile, will enjoy the 11 new driving assistance systems, a mix of standard and optional equipment ranging from blind-spot assistance to parking guidance. Plus there’s the chance of internet access via the ‘COMAND Online’ system.
The new C63 AMG will go on sale in July, though pricing and exact specifications have yet to be confirmed.
