As in previous years, the organisers have gone to great lengths to ensure that a really world-class entry is on display at the 5* Marina Hotel complex, on the coast and just a short drive from the centre of Kuwait City. With an entrants' list that spans the world of car collecting, you can expect to see the very best classic cars from the earliest, pioneering days of motoring, right up to date with Aston Martin choosing to launch the very first production V12 Vantage Zagato at the event.
In 2011, the organisers also decided to showcase some of the incredible ‘Royal family’ cars from all the Gulf states with many unique Rolls-Royce, Mercedes and Bentley limousines artfully displayed around the marina.
And the word on the streets is that the American Muscle Car category will have another very special entry from last year’s champion, Stanley Kryla, who will be joined by more North American-based cars. 1972 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible vs. 1970 Plymouth Superbird... who’s going to win that one? There’s only one way to find out...
... which will be a job for the judges. This year, they include the Head of the Judging Team, Leonardo Fioravanti, Dr Ulrich Bez and Marek Reichman from Aston Martin, Andrea Zagato, Sandra Button from the Pebble Beach Concours, and Louis Vuitton’s ambassador to the automobile community, Christian Philippsen.
With Lamborghini Miuras on the streets of Kuwait City, a surprise visit by a former British prime minister and the tastes, sights and sounds of the Gulf, the 2011 Concours was a big hit in the Classic Driver office. We’ll be reporting in full from this year’s event in days to come.
