When retro goes (even more) retro: The Fiat 500 1957 Edition

As though we don’t have enough anniversaries when we stick to the round numbers, Fiat is now celebrating the 57th anniversary of the original ‘Nuova’ Cinquecento of 1957 with a special edition of that super-successful retro car, the Fiat 500…

And guess what it’s called? Yup, the ‘1957 Edition’. But given that Fiat has pretty well defined the retro market with its much-loved modern 500, we think they should be allowed to celebrate every single year, if that’s what they feel like.

The Fiat 500 1957 Edition is a cosmetic enhancement only, with the 1.4-litre MultiAir engine and five-speed gearbox of the 2014 Lounge model, but a more retro look: namely, three classic exterior colours, ‘vintage’ FIAT badges and a Bianco roof. Oh, and 1957-era wheels, although their authenticity (and appeal) is being hotly debated right now in the Classic Driver office.

In the Classic Driver Market, you'll find not only a selection of classic Fiats, but also numerous Abarths, too.
