Unless you were the Sultan of Brunei, your colour choices for a new Ferrari F40 as a client in the 1980s were pretty limited: The car was only available in Rosso Corsa. Luckily, owners have become more bold and creative in recent years, showcasing how good the original Maranello supercar can look in bright blue or dark green. Another well-known protagonist of the repainting movement is the 1991 Ferrari F40 known as ‘Minty Forty’. Originally delivered in ‘Rosso Corsa’ to a German client, chassis 88538 was involved in an accident in the late 1990s, and while the car was repaired to factory specifications, it lost its original paint along the way. Leap forward to 2021 when the latest owner took custody of the Ferrari – and decided to have the car painted in a light mint green. The colour might come as a surprise, but true Ferraristi will remember Stirling Moss’ famous Ferrari 250 GTO painted in the exact same shade of Verde Pallido to which the F40 pays its tribute.
Maintained by Schaltkulisse since 2022, the mint-condition Ferrari F40 is now heading to the auction block at the RM Sotheby’s sale on August 16 in Monterey. Estimated to fetch 1,9 to 2,5 million US Dollars, the matching-numbers car will be accompanied by a matching Amalgam scale model in 1:18 size.
By the way – if you like the look as much as we do, but don’t have the funds to place a bid for the big combo, you can also purchase ‘Minty Forty’ as a limited-edition Amalgam model from the CD Shop, drastically increasing your budget for artisanal mint ice cream at your local gelateria.
