As always at the Goodwood circuit meeting Bonhams try and pack the catalogue with suitable cars to appeal to the top-level historic racers attending the event. This time they’ve kept back a selection of Rosso Bianco cars, many of which are eminently ‘Revivable’.
There’s just under 50 cars in the catalogue (as well as 140 or so lots of Automobilia), and Bonhams have wisely decided to go for ‘quality’ rather than sheer quantity. The ex-Peter Kaus ‘Rosso Bianco Museum’ cars beg to be entered immediately at the next big historic meeting but potential buyers should be aware they are bidding for a ‘museum’ car and not one that’s just been delivered by a top class racing preparation company.
That aside, there are so many cars to choose from it’s difficult to pick a favourite although the ex-Tommy Atkins, Roy Salvadori 1964 Cooper-Maserati Type 61(M) V8 Monaco 'Mark V' (above) at £105,000 - 125,000 would do this writer, as would the 1959-model Lister-Jaguar 'Costin' chassis BHL 2/59 for £75,000 - 100,000. The cover of the catalogue features the blue ex-Mecom Racing Team/Augie Pabst/Walt Hansgen, 1963-64 Lola-Chevrolet Mark 6 GT , £120,000 - 180,000, and for those looking for one of the rarest ‘big-banger’ GTs around with a formidable pedigree this represents very good value.

I could go on, but another cracker would be the Ex-Chuck Parsons, 1966-67 Lola-Chevrolet T70 Spider Group 7 at £120,000 - 180,000. These open cars really look the business (but if you prefer a coupé Bonhams will oblige with the ex-Dan Hagerty 'Grizzly Adams', 1969-70 Lola-Chevrolet T70GT Mark IIIB for £105,000 - 125,000) and the likes of Simon Hadfield and Frank Sytner have shown just how fast they are in modern-day historic racing.
Of the other lots, the ex-London Motor Show, 1975 Ferrari 365GT/4 Berlinetta Boxer looks nice at £40,000 - 45,000 (the registration ‘BOX 365’ included in the sale must be worth a few bob too) , while the 1939 Talbot Lago T150C 4.0-Litre Competition Roadster at £140,000 - 160,000 would be a potential entry at the Le Mans Classic or popular Motoring Legends pre-war series.

Finally what better company car for your writer than Lot 202, the ex-‘DSJ’ 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2-Litre FHC? Estimated at £18,000 - 22,000, this is the car that the celebrated racing correspondent Denis Jenkinson used for his 1960s and ‘70s travels around Europe. Originally a LHD car, it has been converted to RHD and painted red. Perhaps not in the finest of fettle, but for those brought up on a diet of ‘Jenks’s tales of Stewart, Rodriguez, Hill et al driving proper cars on proper racetracks it’s a pure piece of history.
Prior to the Motor Car Sale, Bonhams will auction a variety of Automobilia including Part One of the Geoffrey Goddard Collection, the famous motor racing photographer (and personality) of the '50s, '60s and '70s.
