World Ducati Week 2012

No motorcycle manufacturer can claim a more devoted following than Ducati, proven by the firm’s ability to pack a four-day event to the rafters with droves of faithful ‘Ducatisti’. This year’s World Ducati Week – held from 21-24 June at the Misano circuit – looks set to be the biggest yet.

As one of the five theme-based areas, the ‘Heritage Galaxy’ will draw on Ducati’s rich heritage to form a display dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Englishman Paul Smart’s historic win at Imola in 1972, on his 750. Alongside a clutch of motorcycles from the heritage fleet, owners will be invited to enter their own bikes into the Ducati Vintage Contest.

Meanwhile, Smart and a host of other legendary Ducati riders will be in attendance at the Misano circuit, with their tales of racing dramas at the ready.

No doubt another popular area at Misano will be the ‘Galaxy of Adrenaline’, where enthusiasts will be able to look over current competition bikes while rubbing shoulders with their idols. There will also be track time and a test ride on the new 1199 Panigale available to appropriate pass holders.

Part of the ‘Bike Art Galaxy’ is a competition for the best personalised twin-cylinder Ducati. Split into ‘Specials’ and ‘Diavel’ categories, the final 14 will be narrowed down by the public to the best in each category. Other sections of the event include the ‘Discovery Galaxy’, which provides members of Ducati owners’ clubs with a place to gather, while the ‘International Village’ gives visitors from across the globe the opportunity to “party in their own country-specific tradition.”

Praise is due to Ducati for its eagerness to attract international visitors: non-European attendees gain entry for free, by showing a passport and proof of residence.
