Artcurial’s 9-million-euro Le Mans Classic sale

Held in a marquee near the owners' club displays on the Bugatti circuit, next to the pre-grid area for the races, Artcurial’s 7 July 2012 auction was its second at the Le Mans Classic. The results were impressive, grossing a total of 9m euros and selling 88 per cent of the motor car catalogue.

Top-selling car was the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB (below), estimated at 1,300,000 euros and selling for 1,540,200 euros. The ex-factory 1991 Peugeot 905 Le Mans car sold for 654,700 euros.

Those in the know tipped the for-restoration, very original 1965 Alfa Romeo GTA to do well. My goodness, it certainly did, selling for an estimate-busting 128,700 euros.

Another ‘barn-find’, the 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Coupé doubled its 100,000-euro pre-sale guide, selling for 210,900 euros.

Once again it proves that original, unrestored, unmolested cars from the best marques are the top tip right now.
