Bicycling is not only fun, it’s also an environmentally friendly way to get around. Now you can do your bit to prevent global warming, while scoring some serious style points with the people in your neighbourhood. The Dutch product design house Van Heesch has elevated the simple ‘granny bike’ into a shiny creation, set to make anyone who rides it the centre of attention…
It might be a simple bicycle design, but it could be the perfect mode of transportation for someone hoping to turn some heads while cruising down the street. The Dutch two-wheeler, a classic model that hasn’t changed much over the last 100 years, has undergone the ultimate luxury treatment but luckily without losing any of its retro flavour. The bike is entirely plated in copper – from the seat’s springs to the mudguards and the chain. Yes, you read it right, even the chain has been given a metallic covering.
Meanwhile, thanks to the copper coating, the bike will not rust but acquire a characteristic patina with age. However, if you want to experience the joy of pedal power in this flamboyant manner, you'd better be prepared for people stopping you and asking questions about your shiny bike - that’s the kind of attention you’re likely to attract when taking it for a leisurely Sunday ride through town.
