Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 ‘Daytona’ to be auctioned in Monaco

Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 ‘Daytona’ to be auctioned in Monaco

RM Auctions is returning to Monaco for its regular biennial sale at the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, on 10 – 12 May 2012. An early consignment is the ex-Nino Vaccarella 1968 Alfa Tipo 33/2 ‘Daytona’.

The auction will be held at the Grimaldi Forum where, in 2010, RM achieved more than 33 million euros in sales, with 89% of the entries finding new homes. The 2012 sale promises an “elite, handpicked selection of 80 automobiles”. And, adding to the action, there will also be a sale for motorcycle collectors, thanks to the consignment of the renowned Saltarelli Ducati Collection – hence the extension to a two-day sale (11 – 12 May), with a preview on 10 May.

But back to that competition-bred Alfa Tipo 33/2 ‘Daytona’, chassis number 75033-029. RM tells us that it’s a highly original car, described as “one of the best and most original examples in existence”. It was driven to victory at the 500km race at Imola by Nino Vaccarella and Teodoro Zeccoli, while the Alfa also made competitive appearances at Monza, Targa Florio and Zeltweg, among other venues. The estimate is 900,000 to 1.1m euros.
