"The Chevrolet Bel Air was called the ‘Hot One’ in GM's advertising campaign. The first series Bel Air was introduced in 1950 but it was not until 1955 that the model received a V8 power unit and, in 1956, it received a face-lift that included a full-width grille, pleasing those who did not like the Ferrari style front that the earlier 55 model had. The distinctive two-tone coachwork treatment and graceful front and rear wheel openings completed the ‘Speedline’ restyling. Single housings incorporated the taillight, stoplight and backup light, and the left one held the gas filler - an idea popularized on the Cadillac. This 1956 facelift model is presented in the two-tone black and silver with an original, contrasting, red velvet interior. It was imported from Fort Worth, Texas in January of 2019 and is now UK registered with all taxes and fees having been paid. The power unit is, what is known as, the small block V8 of 5.7 litre capacity and mated to a TH350 automatic transmission. This example is fitted with the more scarce gear change indicator that incorporates the word ‘Park’ rather than the usual ‘P’ within the main instrument cluster. There are several features that include an electric choke on the throttle pedal, AM stereo, clock, electric front bench seat, electric windows, power brakes, front disc brakes, power steering and a recent radiator. The undersides have been protected and waxed to protect against the harsher UK environment. A history file accompanies this Bel Air and includes a UK V5 registration document, a copy of the US Title, invoices and, we are informed, will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. Used as a daily driver until recently, this magnificent example is ready to cruise, rock and roll."
