Beschreibung
As a successor to the type 1900 from Alfa Romeo, the new 2000-Series was first introduced on the 1957 Turin salon. The four-cylinder engines with a capacity of 1’975 cc, two overhead camshafts and two twin carburettors were basically taken over from their predecessors. On the 2000 platform, numerous studies, prototypes and small series from various designers and coachbuilders were produced, among them the 2000 S coupé shown here. 47 chassis were delivered to Vignale; our car carries the chassis number 10202*00001 and was presented as a “Fuoriserie” at the 1958 Torino salon. The two gentlemen Michelotti and Vignale were not happy with its presentation leading to a rework and a repaint of the Coupé, and it was finally shown in its current shape at the 1959 salon de l ’automobile in Geneva. Then the car returned to the works where it was repainted again to the final grey and delivered on the 8th September 1959 to Lugano. On the 16th of September the car was registered and delivered to its first owner in Zurich. In August 1961, the Coupé was sold to a Blacksmith in Horgen who, together with his son, kept it all the way to 1974. In July 1975, the Alfa was taken over by an enthusiast who had it restored and repainted to the current silver between 1978 and 1988. In November 2007, the very chic Coupé was, after an extended search, bought back by the second owner’s son and added to his little collection. In 2020, and with a heavy heart, he sold the unique car to the vendor who, due to lack of time and space, now has decided to sell the car once more. We therefore are proud to offer a unique Alfa Romeo with a unique history and matching numbers in very good condition. The last Veteran MOT was completed in August 2013 but for a Swiss buyer the car will be freshly MOT’d as a matter of course.
