All Hail 'The Quail'! The 2012 Motorsports Gathering in pictures


Held in blazing Californian sunshine, this year’s sell-out Quail Lodge event was another day-long party celebrating everything that’s best in the world of cars, old and new.

McLaren used the event to lift the wraps on the X-1 design exercise, Aston Martin was displaying its all-new Vanquish, and Lamborghini had the Uris 4x4 concept and $2m Sesto Elemento, both proudly showed off by CEO and President Stephan Winkelmann, who also announced plans for next year’s 50th anniversary.

And speaking of anniversaries, 50 years ago the Shelby Cobra was born, and earlier this year its creator, Carroll Shelby, passed away. Time for a celebration? Oh yes, bring on the Cobras, escorted as ever from nearby Laguna Seca by the California Highway Patrol…
