| This beautiful Alvis is a very special car, having been bodied by Parisian coachbuilders Van Vooren especially for the Paris Salon in 1935. The show was Alvis's first visit to Paris and the car was met with such enthusiasm as to be photographed and mentioned in The Motor magazine's preview of the show. The following week, the magazine's report again spoke of the car and the fact that it had been sold on the opening day. This first owner was a M. Bourgeon whose name appears on a copy of the factory build sheet in the history file and whose Paris address is displayed on his personal plaque that still adorns the glove box lid. In a 1967 edition of his ' Revue trimestrelle de l'album du fanatique de l'automobile ' well known collector and connoisseur Serge Pozzoli describes being told of an Alvis Speed 20 for sale in Paris whose first owner had bought the car at the 1935 Salon. He writes of rushing to a garage near the Observatoire to buy the car and it was to remain with him for the next 40-odd years. Following M. Pozzoli's death in the early 1990's much of his collection was sold at auction but the family kept the Alvis until recently purchased by us. Cosmetically the car is in largely original condition with most of the original paint intact and the trim in worn but original condition. Mechanically the car is in excellent order and has obviously been maintained to a high standard. Potentially, the car could be preserved with some gentle restoration to maintain its originality or with a complete (but relatively straight forward) rebuild would surely be a guaranteed entry in to any top level concours d'elegance event around the world.
