Competition car• Already mythical model• Outstanding results and performances• Superb presentation, restoration by PorscheOne owner from new1997 Porsche 993 GT2 R Built to allow homologation of the car in the GT2 category, it was logical that this version of the 993 should take this name. Derived from the standard 911 Turbo, the car was fitted with a flat six-cylinder 3.6-litre twin-turbo engine which produced 430 bhp and later 450 bhp. It subsequently enjoyed various improvements, such as plastic bodywork panels, extended wings, wider rear spoiler, bigger brakes and firmer suspension. The car weighed less than the Turbo, and excelled in BPR and FIA championships. There were 57 examples of the road-going 993 GT2 built.The Porsche 993 GT2 R offered is a competition version of the GT2, homologated for the GT FIA category. It has two features which distinguish it from other examples: provenance and condition. The car took part in three seasons of FIA racing, entered by its sole owner and Sonauto, French Porsche importer, and driven by Jean-Pierre Jarier and François Lafon. Moreover, it was painted by German artist, Peter Klasen, giving it entry to the exclusive « Art Cars » club, a concept brilliantly created by Hervé Poulain, to link the worlds of art and motor racing, through shared history and aesthetics.Following its glory years, the GT2 has stayed with its original owner, and has benefitted from a complete restoration carried out by the Porsche Centre in Brussels. The file with the car contains an invoice for €53,000 for this work. The competition equipment includes: adjustable suspension, full FFSA race equipment, roll cage, BBS wheels fitted with Pirelli Pzero tyres, bucket seat, security fuel tank and two fire extinguishers.
