Ah, the deft touch and lightness of hands. What joy to watch a 1960s hero, effortlessly guiding a perfectly balanced combination from crest to vale.
It’s almost as if he were playing an instrument. But, hang on, legendary R&B man Steve 'The Colonel' Cropper, whom I saw perform earlier this week, was wielding a custom–made electric guitar. And extraordinarily good, he was, too.
But, as you read this, the 2011 Goodwood Revival will also be in full swing, with drivers of the calibre of Richard Attwood reprising their original performances, this time behind the wheel of classic racing cars and often paired with the young guns of today.
A sort of Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White collaboration. And, as with the three–piece's 2009 documentary, 'It Might Get Loud'.

Ridden: Harley–Davidson XL1200 Sportster Custom
It's pretty pointless judging Harley–Davidsons by normal road–testing parameters, writes Tom Stewart. You see, people generally don't ride Harleys because they're swift, light, economical or comfortable. Or because they handle brilliantly, or are particularly refined, high–tech, green, practical, sensible or inexpensive (though some are). For the most part — this 'new' 1200 Custom model included — they're none of those things.
