I write this on the eve of the climax of two quintessentially British events, the Festival of Speed and the final weekend of the Wimbledon Championships.
One, of course, is famed for its garden party atmosphere, impeccable manners and shrieking sounds — the other is Goodwood.
I'm looking forward to both, although if you don't already have tickets for either event you might be in a spot of bother. As prospective buyers of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 will have found out this week, it pays to get your order in early.
And I'm reminded of this amazing machine in connection with the Festival, as it was only a few years ago that Bugatti ran the car up the Hill for the first time. I was standing at the start line and — quite simply — one minute it was there... the next... just gone!
There'll be much to talk about over the next couple of days, and we look forward to bringing you all the action next week on Classic Driver.

Electric Delta E–4
"Would you buy this car?" asks John Simister. The Delta E–4 Sport sounds almost too good to be true. It's an electric four–seater coupé with four–wheel drive, able to travel 200 miles on one charge, reach 150mph and hit 60mph in four seconds. Holy Electric Grails, Batman!

Last Bugatti Veyron 16.4 sold to a European customer
For those who hesitated, it's now too late. The choice of 1000bhp+ cars has just got smaller as Bugatti calls time on the 'regular' Veyron — from now on, it's a 1.4m–euro Grand Sport, or 1200PS Super Sport, or nothing.
