Classic Inside 12/2011

EDITORIAL

As most of you will be aware, the 2011 Formula One season has just kicked off in Australia. With one thing and another, I must confess that it has caught me slightly on the hop, and I'm in a bit of a "yeah, well..." mood about the whole F1 scene.

By and large, 2010 was one of the more interesting years for motor racing's premier category. No doubt we'll have some fascinating races to come over the next few months, and it would be nice to see Schumacher at something approaching his old speed but, for this writer, I am sure it will be 'more of the same'.

Which is a pity. And I don't want to bang on about how much more exciting historic motorsport can be. Pick your own metaphor; apples and pears or chalk and cheese, they just ain't the same thing.

It would be nice, however, to see some of the world's best modern drivers behind the wheel of historic racing cars, enjoying real wheel–to–wheel dicing.

Hold on, you can enjoy that, later this year — it's called the Goodwood Revival and will take place on 16–18 September.
