Have you ever succumbed to automotive passion? A time when eyes met across a muddy car park, a pristine concours field or motorway Tarmac, the moment you knew you had finally met 'the right one'?
The owner of the green De Tomaso Mangusta featured in this week's newsletter was as love–struck as a teenager when he spied his first Mangusta in a Goodwood Revival car park. A worldwide search for a suitable car, and an ensuing trip to Italy, located the metallic green GT you see in our feature.
For your Editor — aye, I have my tender side — it was at Silverstone, in the early 80s with the VSCC and AMOC putting on top–level club racing for cars then still expensive, but now out of the reach of all but the most well–heeled collectors.
Those were the days when '1 VEV', the famous semi–works Aston DB4 GT Zagato, was painted red, and ran on wide alloy wheels underneath flared wheel arches.
It was love at first sight; but unlike the tale of the Mangusta, ultimately unrequited.
