Classic Inside 05/2011

EDITORIAL

Our Editor has developed something of a taste for adventure, of late. Last month saw him whizzing off to Arizona, to experience not only the glittering auctions held by RM and Gooding, but also the land of elk-hunting holidays and ‘Texas Size' turkey legs that is the Barrett-Jackson sale. “It's a different world,” he says. Do read his wickedly perceptive review of this outlandish event in this week's newsletter.

And now he's in Kuwait, for the Kuwait Concours d'Elegance, currently in its second year and, by the sound of it, a truly world-class gathering of exotic automobiles in a truly glamorous venue.

It's easy to get into the habit of going to the same events, year after year, without trying anything startlingly new. I wouldn't miss Goodwood for the world, but sometimes it pays to be more adventurous. Since Kuwait is not a country I've ever visited, I harbour ridiculously stereotyped visions of Steve on a camel, lost in the desert. The reality, I'm told, is a highly sophisticated country full of people with a genuine passion for cars. I look forward to reading his full report, next week.
