Classic Inside 40/2010

EDITORIAL

For those of us not knowing our Eterne from our Elbow, help is at hand in this week's newsletter. John Simister analyses each of the five (yes, it took us all by surprise) debutants from Lotus at last week's Paris show.

The Norfolk company is entering a crowded market, however; a glossy magazine, and celebrities–by–the–hour do not a successful car business make. Not on their own, anyway. There's stuff like in–house engines — which are rather important at this price and performance level.

Having said all that, Pagani does all right with the Zonda, powered by one of AMG Mercedes' amazing V12s, so, what do I know? There's a Zonda R up for auction at RM's forthcoming London sale, by the way, and you can read about this and the 104 other entries in a full preview of the October sale...

...which will have the James Bond DB5 as its centrepiece. I really, really have no idea what this will sell for. What I do know, though, is that it will be one of the events of the year — if you are in London that week, do try and make it. The catalogue's separate 'FMP 7B Mission Dossier' alone is worth the price of admission.
