Classic Inside 29/2010

EDITORIAL

Well, it's nice to be back on dry land again. You'll have to wait another week for the story of this year's British Classic Yacht Club Panerai Cowes Regatta, from which I've just returned. Suffice to say, I'm now in full Mr Toad mode, desperately wanting more stylish sailing in the Solent.

But, returning to matters four–wheeled, what's in this week's newsletter? There's the first of many Monterey sale previews, and a review of yet another unsuccessful attempt by Classic Driver at pot–winning in the British Classic Car Meeting in St Moritz. To be honest, that's not quite accurate, as you will see in Nick's very readable report.

The Le Mans Classic seems a long time ago now, but the images of the beetle–like green Saab, swaying in the wake of Listers and Ferraris, bring it all back. It's amazing what fun you can have with just 65bhp.

And Tony Dron's been driving the latest convertible Abarth. What better car to act as a 'tender' to not only a 612 Scaglietti or Rolls–Royce Phantom, but also an International 19–metre Class vintage yacht such as Mariquita, one of the stars of this year's Panerai–sponsored regatta?
