EDITORIAL
I'm undergoing a bit of an identity crisis. Don't worry, I don't plan to grow a ponytail, or buy a Flavio Briatore–designed jacket (you know, the ones where one sleeve is different from another, or perhaps one is short, the other long).
No, I'm in a dither as a car in the Wakefield family fleet is up for renewal, and I'm not sure what to buy. Now don't get too excited, it's just a family runaround, but you know me: I do have standards.
It's a tricky one. Most people have an idea of what suits them, motoring–wise. You are either a Jaguar/Mercedes/BMW man, or you're not. Likewise Aston, Ferrari, etc.
It's a common misconception to say "all cars are so good now, they are all the same". They aren't, actually, and one of the many reasons is the terrible state of British roads. Class–leading (mainly German) saloons bump and jump about in ways unimagined on European bitumen.
But I digress; if something came up that suited me like, well, a well–fitted suit, I'd buy it.
Maybe next week I will have made up my mind. Or not.
Until then, enjoy this week's ClassicInside and do find time to read our Sleeping Beauties section.

This Aston Martin DB4 is a Series 3, bearing chassis number DB4 628R and engine number 370/649. It was supplied new to a professor in Cambridge in 1961. Arthur Carter (a big-Healey collector who owned a lot of ex-Works cars) then purchased the car in 1963 and owned the vehicle until 2004. DK purchased the car in November 2004 on behalf of a client who bought the car for his elderly father. Therefore, this is believed to be a three-owner vehicle from new, a letter is on file from Arthur Carter detailing his ownership.
It had only covered 12,000 genuine miles in 2004 when supplied by us, and was in its original condition, believed to have never been painted or trimmed; a real time-warp which simply couldn't be replicated. The car drives wonderfully having had about £11,000 of maintenance carried out to it since we sold it to our customer in 2004. It has covered 3,000 miles since then bringing the total mileage up to a believed genuine 15,000 miles from new.
This car represents a rare opportunity to purchase what is surely one of the most original examples of DB4 in existence that remains in truly original, sound and running condition.
