EDITORIAL
I thought I'd seen a ghost! It's amazing what a mirror reveals, and a glance rearward late Monday afternoon showed a pair of xenon headlamps flanking the all–too–familiar Rolls–Royce grille as a large saloon turned into Goodwood House. Yes, it was indeed that sort of Ghost.
A report on my day's activities at Goodwood will have to wait a couple of weeks, but I have to say that the latest Rolls, in motion, looked a wonderful motor car. You'll be able to see it next week at Frankfurt but it will be behind the wheel that matters, as it's likely to be a terrific drivers' machine.
That was Monday and, over the next couple of days, we had the McLaren MP4–12C and the Mercedes–Benz SLS AMG revealed in all their glory.
You can read about both cars in this week's ClassicInside. Both are sensational; the SLS I love for its wonderfully executed retro looks and no doubt awesome performance, and the McLaren for its subtle distillation into a road car of everything that makes Formula 1 the world's premier racing series. For a company famed for its clinical, 'grey' persona, this car has personality and spirit.
Anyway, I can't wait to see one. It's the Goodwood Revival next weekend and I hope to catch up with many of you there.
Until then,
THIS WEEK IN CLASSIC DRIVER

Rolls–Royce Ghost for International Debut at Frankfurt
Full specification revealed
One drawback with endlessly 'teasing' a new car is that by the time its launch comes round, there's an inevitable "yeah, well?" in the marketplace. Rolls–Royce will officially unveil its now named, 'smaller' limousine, the Ghost, later this month in Frankfurt.

It is not every day that we have pleasure of offering such a wonderfully original, well presented and well documented RHD example of the iconic 275GTB. In the desirable long nose torque tube configuration and still retaining its original interior, it is accompanied by all of its original books, tool kit, and an extensive history file including the original bill of sale, invoices from new, FIVA Passport and FIA HTP papers.
Beautifully maintained throughout with a fully removable roll cage and original parcel shelf and trim plates to go back in its place; this is truly a drivers car. Having had over £80,000 spent on it with a leading marque specialist in the last three years alone you are going to struggle to find a more impressive example.

This is no ordinary GT40 Replica! Constructed by Robin Batt, a perfectionist and seriously quick amateur racer, this race-proven, FIA spec, GTD40 has been the subject of numerous articles. It also features on the front cover (and pps 153-156) of the definitive book on the GT40 by Trevor Legate. Not only that, but driven by none other than Brian Redman himself at Spa who, after eight laps, declared the car to be every bit as good as an original. And so it should be as 60% of the components ARE original!
So - a VERY highly spec'd GT40 Replica by GTD, built for competition use with scrutineers' stickers to prove, but also highly usable on the road. It drives beautifully delivering 430 bhp through the ZF gearbox in only 1,100 Kg from its correct 5-Litre engine. A huge history file and scrupulous maintenance completes this rare opportunity. To build such a highly spec'd car to-day would cost in excess of £130,000. At 65% of that price. you can own one of the best GTD's extant for immediate use and enjoyment.
