EDITORIAL
You wouldn't think the sight of a German approaching middle age driving a Ferrari while wearing a baseball cap was such an unusual sight — until said driver was seven-times World Champion Michael Schumacher, and the Ferrari in question an upgraded FXX.
What's more, the 860hp car was circulating Mugello at last weekend's Finali Mondiali. You have to hand it to him — and the Ferrari hierarchy — it was a nice touch that the fans greatly appreciated and was as clear a delineator as you could get between a driver with almost superhuman talents and the rest of us mere mortals.
In most experts' opinion the RM sale in London this week was just right for the market. Nearly all the cars sold, the prices were spot-on, and entries like the 1928 Reo Racing Car achieving £447,000 against an estimate of £150,000 - 250,000 was simply a result of two guys really wanting the car, and battling it out to buy it.
One of my favourites was the blue 1966 Ford GT40. Its eventual price of £983,400 may have required a few more years' interest in the Post Office account, but you have to have a goal in life, don't you?
