EDITORIAL
The 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show has the world's luxury and prestige manufacturers on the horns of a dilemma (naturally-harvested no doubt, or hand-crafted in carbonfibre and titanium with an Alcantara covering, perhaps).
They have to make some environmental concessions but, knowing the infinitesimal effect such low production has on the world as a whole, how far can they go to please the 'green' lobby, yet retain the loyal following of super-rich clients to whom such possessions are, by definition, an indulgence, a statement with no concessions to compromise or the effect on others?
So, under the same roof, you have the totally crazy Brabus C Class 'Bullit' with its 720hp V12 giving a top speed of 360km/h (that's 223.7mph by the way), a hybrid Porsche Cayenne (so often the subject of protestors’ complaints), and the latest-specification Bentley Continental GTs having reduced CO2 emissions as a feature in press material right up there with the headlining 200mph-plus top speed and 600 horsepower.
And I haven't even mentioned the 650 horsepower, 495g/km CO2 Lamborghini Reventón. But hold on a minute, this is named after a fighting bull from the 1940s. Is this the final admission that our bovine friends really are responsible for the greenhouse gas issue?
I think we should be told.
