Editorial

What is it about the sunny principality on the Côte d’Azur that has such an allure? The ‘Magic of Monaco’ and other alliteratives. Last weekend saw not only two significant auctions, but also the conclusion of a fantastic tour of Lamborghinis (that we expect to cover in future issues) held to celebrate the Miura’s 40th Anniversary running from Gstaad to Monte Carlo, and a whole weekend of top-class historic racing that you can read about below.

All this of course is the precursor to the modern F1 race to be run on Sunday at 2.00pm. A look through the previous winners will reveal a roll-call of the greats, with Senna’s five victories (out of six, an outright record with Schumacher on five well-placed to match it this year) in consecutive races from 1989 – 1993 standing out for posterity.

On the new car front we have Porsche’s latest non-S Cayman, which makes life a bit difficult explaining it as most people would say ‘News! The car was launched last September’, and ‘Hold on a minute, next you’ll be telling us Aston Martin have just made a “Vantage”!’.

Well, the world of new car nomenclature is a complicated one and if most manufacturers like to announce a base model with the upgraded one following on, Porsche, in the best traditions of the marque, like to do things the other way round.
