Editorial

There’s nothing quite like the sensation of driving a light car with a powerful, large capacity engine. Weighing at around 1250 kgs, and with its 6.6 litre engine producing well over 500 hp (and 500 ft. lbs torque) the Shelby Daytona Cobra you can see above is a brilliantly conceived and designed package that thinks out of the ‘Cobra Replica’ box.

Well worth considering, and I hope you enjoy the article below.

In your author’s opinion there’s little to commend Italian designers F&M’s attempt at a ‘modern-retro’. It’s a car from the ‘Excalibur’ school of design that lacks the flair of something like the Wiesmann Roadster, and brings back nasty memories of the recently incarnated Lea-Francis.

But we’re a broad church at Classic Driver and it’s an interesting story I think.

Much more to my taste is an E-Class with AMG’s latest 6.3 V8. It may give away a little performance to the Shelby Daytona Cobra, but it’s a tad more practical.

The ultimate historic racing paddock tender.
