Editorial

You have to think, ‘Why hadn’t someone done it before?’ when considering the success of last weekend’s inaugural New York City Concours d’Elegance. Blessed with ideal Indian Summer weather and Mayor Bloomberg’s official sanction, it was held in the perfect location (Central Park) with an excellent entry and superb sponsorship. Resident New York film-maker Alexander Davidis was there to record the action.

And you can see below that just a few weeks separate the first owners of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 from their 1001 HP supercar. Don’t forget the ‘1001’, the extra one horse power says it all about the car - it’s going to built to such an un-compromised standard that if 1000 HP would be sufficient for most owners (or rival manufacturers) then it’s not good enough for Bugatti.

The life and times of legendary multiple word champion Juan Manuel Fangio are being celebrated this month at a special exhibition in the home of 1950s Italian motor racing, Modena. Apart from two (highly successful) years with Mercedes, and early European races with Alfa Romeo, Fangio’s image is mostly associated with a drifting Maserati 250F, and it’s the Modenese manufacturer that’s supporting the event to the full.

Quiet and courteous, and yet a real man behind the wheel of a man’s car – Fangio was the perfect Classic Driver.
