Two cars that were mere concepts a year or so ago are seeing the light of day in New York this week, at the city’s International Auto Show. Jaguar’s ‘Super V8 Portfolio’ productionises the super-cool design first seen as a DJ and clubber’s paradise, while Mercedes have gone the sensible route with the R-Class, a model that fills in the odd nooks and crannies in the company’s model line-up. 4wd? Yup. People-carrier? Oh yes. Sporty estate? Well, sort of, if you screw your eyes up and look at it a bit funny. SUV? Well, hold on a minute, I think we’ve covered that with the other ones and you’re counting things twice, but if it makes you happy, yes it’s an SUV as well.

Jaguar have scored a bullseye with the LWB saloon, while M-B and the R-Class; let’s just say the very beige press photos do not help its cause.

Fantastic performance by Aston Martin last weekend - congratulations all round and roll on Le Mans in June.

The extended holiday will mean no Classic Inside next week - full service will be resumed on the 8th April.

A very happy holiday to all of you from your Classic Driver Team.

Ferrari 250GT SWB Reproduction

This immaculate example has stunning coachwork that was built by the well-known marque specialist, Scuderia Brescia, in 1985. Scuderia Brescia are the experts who still today restore and re-build a number of cars for the Ferrari factory. Upon completion the car was collected from the Ferrari factory in Modena and has since competed in a number of European events, to include the 1999 Champagne Rallye, after which the engine of the car was subject to a complete re-build, and has covered a mere 500km since.

The car is finished in the classic Ferrari colour scheme of Rosso Corsa with a black leather interior, and fitted with many competitzione style features, it remains in excellent condition throughout and is a delight to drive, either on the road or track.
