Editorial

Having had the wind taken out of my sails editorially this week on discovering Alfa Romeo’s new Brera coupé not being a substitute for the Italian company’s delicious ‘8C Competizione’, and that the V8-powered machine’s destiny still lay in the hands of top management at the FIAT Group (who have enough on their plate at the moment I am sure), I find it difficult to pick out a single topic for discussion.

Aston’s DBR9 has slightly less sticker-space available now with the announcement that stylish British tailors Hackett will be the official team clothing supplier for the company’s eagerly-anticipated return to International racing. No doubt the result will be a mixture of huntin’ and shootin’ sporting chic, mixed in with a bit of modern techno fabrics from the slopes or marina. One can only wonder sartorially, how a similar arrangement in 1981 with the Nimrod racing cars would have turned out.

"If you can afford a car, you can afford an island!" is the bold claim from Farhad Vladi, owner and manager of Vladi Private Islands, well I suppose there are cars, and there are islands, read the article below and you can be the judge.

Paris Rétromobile next week, and don’t forget the International Historic Motorsport Show 2005, at Stoneleigh in the UK later on this month. Last year’s show was a phenomenal success - I can strongly recommend a visit by everyone interested in all forms of the sport.
