Editorial

I hope you have all recovered from cruising the hotspots of the British capital after last week's special 'LondonInside'.

This week on Classic Driver we've got news on the latest executive compact from BMW that's sure to be another storming success in the showrooms, a new motorbike from Harley (well, you can't say we don't try to be different), and a great opportunity for all you 'Classic Drivers' to let us know about your cars; what you like about them, how you found them and what they're like to own.

For those of you interested in the oily bits that move around under your svelte machine's flanks, I was privileged to attend this year's 'Dewar Trophy' presentation this week at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall. The recipient of the annual prize (not always awarded) was the Delphi Corporation for their innovative "Maximum Torque Brake System". In layman's terms this is a twin disc-per-corner system using 'floating' technology, so one piston can apply braking force to four pads, and by doing so give 1.9 times the stopping power of a conventional disc-system of the same diameter.

One of its main applications will be the US SUV market where size/power/performance/weight knows no bounds, but think what this could do to the Cayenne/G55/Overfinch R-R category in the EEC. Wait for the mainstream manufacturers to take this technology up. I hope you heard it here first.

Aston Martin fans will be in for a treat next week in 'Classic Inside' - watch this space.
