Editorial
Well Bentley did win the 'big one' last week, a superb achievement
and congratulations to all concerned with the Team for not only
winning, but leading from the start and also finishing second.
Conversations from where I was standing, trackside at Tertre Rouge,
revolved around entries further down the field, as one of our group
was associated with a private Porsche GT team. This is the area
where amateur racers of all ages can say 'You know I could have
done that a few years ago, had I not spent the money on cars/girls/business....'
Just imagine - 'I drove at Le Mans'. It's a heady dream, but one
that is still possible despite ever-increasing costs and a notoriously
difficult to please organising body and its quirky admissions policy.
Private entrant equipment now is absolutely superb; the ever-reliable
Porsches, a resurgent Ferrari GT presence with 550GTS and 360 N/GT
cars, as well as the tried and tested Dodge Vipers. A figure of
£150,000 was quoted for a one car GT entry in the race, so
that's £50,000 per driver - lot of money to most people but
average to run a Historic club-racing car for the year.
There is the little matter of driving the thing, but this
is the event where being adequately fast, consistent, very 'mirror-aware'
and fit will bring a reliable car home. British Classic Inside subscribers
will have the chance to see the FIA GT Championship at close hand
next weekend when the circus comes to the Donington Park Circuit
and we cannot recommend it highly enough, particularly if you did
nor get the chance to visit Le Mans.
We'll be cheering on the Veloqx Motorsport Team Maranello Concessionaires
Ferrari 360s, and for this event they have a three car entry. I'll
being taking overalls, helmet and racing licence just in case.

June 2003 Christie's at the Jack Barclay Showroom Review
How
much is a McLaren F1 worth in 2003? Well Christies sold an
immaculate metallic blue one last Monday for £ 593,750 including
premium so, while not quite keeping up with inflation, the cars
do retain the stratospheric values they had when new, nearly 10
years ago now. Also sold was the ex-Jack Lemon Burton 1926 Bugatti
Type 37 Grand Prix Two Seater for a useful £192,800...
