H&H’s sale on the Saturday afternoon at Stoneleigh was one of the highlights of the weekend. Amongst a significant number of cars sold (70%), the feature lot was the 1991 Porsche 962 Kremer CK6 Group C sportscar, which went bang-on estimate at £193,500 including premium.

The 1958 Austin A35 race-car, billed as the ‘Powerful Peanut’, is going to give its new owner some fun, it sold for £12,900, but the other historic racing saloon highlighted in our preview, the 1965 Renault Dauphine Gordini, failed to sell despite its lowish estimate of £7,000 – 9,000.

The 1963 Morris Mini Cooper Rally Car sold for £5,160 - a healthy premium over its estimated £1,500 – 2,500 but then it did look an attractive car, and there were numerous similar 1960s rally-reps historic rallying in the grounds at Stoneleigh over the weekend. Several Rolls-Royce were entered in the sale, many selling with prices ranging from £5,697 for a Gold/Dk Gold Silver Shadow II that your correspondent’s travelling companion compared to the great Maharajah cars of the 20s and 30s (if I have interpreted his comments correctly), to £64,500 for a truly magnificent 1929 Phantom I Open Tourer - Gp C Porsche apart, one of the best cars of the sale.

The 1974 Jaguar 'E' Type V12 Roadster Commemorative Edition was estimated at £70,000 - 80,000, but despite being in superb condition, having only 23,000 miles ‘on the clock’ and being one of just 50 examples - it failed to sell. Nor did the 1998 LHD XJ220, the model a sadly frequent visitor to the auction ring these days.

One of your author’s favourites on the night, a 1965 Porsche 356SC Coupé, sold for a very affordable £11,825. Finished in Dk Grey with Black interior, the little air-cooled ‘twin-toaster’ would have provided excellent transport in the ‘DSJ (Motorsport Magazine’s famous F1 columnist Denis Jenkinson) manner’ to and from events in the UK and abroad. Oh well, another time.
