Optional aerodynamic addenda will also delight those wanting to draw upon every last drop of the 911’s performance.
By making tweaks to the ECU and developing special cylinder heads, different camshafts and a new sports exhaust, Porsche has given its customers the opportunity to create a quasi-GT3. The 0-62mph sprint can now be completed in 4.0 seconds (with a PDK gearbox in Sport+ mode), down from 4.3 seconds in the standard Carrera S. Maximum velocity is nudged up to 191mph – although you’ll need the novel 7-speed manual gearbox for that.
This also opens up the possibility of specifying a pseudo-GT3, while keeping the ability to swap cogs manually. Porsche has already confirmed that when the GT3 version of the 991-series arrives, it’ll only be available with the semi-automatic PDK transmission.
Clever technology handed down from the previous GT3 includes active engine mounts and torque vectoring. None of the modifications to the 3.8-litre boxer engine results in increased fuel consumption.
One of the few visual differences with a Powerkit-armed 911 is a titanium-coloured engine cover with carbon inlays. However, for those who want to make a statement, Porsche’s Exclusive range offers ‘aerodynamically tuned exterior components’, which begin with the Sport Design Package (including ‘ducktail’ spoiler) and culminate with the Aerokit Cup. The latter comprises an additional fixed rear wing over the rear spoiler and a new front spoiler lip, with additional air-intakes.
Prices are yet to be released.
