‘Boys of Bonneville: Racing on a Ribbon of Salt’ – New DVD trailer
This new DVD tells the all-American story of an ‘unsung hero and self-made man’, David Abbott Jenkins, a former mayor of Salt Lake City who put the Bonneville Salt Flats on the map as a venue for speed events.
Jenkins was particularly well known for his own record-breaking exploits behind the wheel of the Duesenberg ‘Mormon Meteor’, which set a 24-hour average land speed record of 135mph in 1935. In 1940, he increased this to 161.180mph.
The DVD features footage of the early pioneering days of Bonneville, includes coverage of ‘Ab’ Jenkins in period and also shows Ab’s son Marv taking the famous Duesenberg back to the Flats for a ceremonial lap on the salt. American talk show host – and car fanatic – Jay Leno is also in the film, as is British land speed record-holder Andy Green.
