The arrival of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T series in late 1965 marked a major change for Rolls-Royce Motors; previously the products of Crewe had employed separate chassis but here was a car of modern design employing unitary construction of chassis and body. Underneath the skin the new Rolls-Royce/Bentley offered even greater engineering excellence and sophistication.
The model was an instant success, and production boomed. In 1969 the engine capacity was increased to 6,750cc, and a modern three-speed automatic gearbox was introduced. Two years later, in 1971, the two door coupé and drophead models coachbuilt by H J Mulliner Park Ward, were renamed Corniche, and received a 10% power increase over the four door Silver Shadow increasing the top speed to 120mph and dropping the 0-60mph acceleration to 9.6 seconds. In 1972 the suspension was completely redesigned and radial tyres were fitted, greatly enhancing the car's handling.
This late and therefore highly desirable Series III Convertible was built in 1991. This left hand drive example has had only one owner from new covering a scant 37,500 miles. Having spent its life in the dry state of Texas and featuring a full service history, including a recent service, this magnificent Rolls Royce is in excellent condition throughout. The car has also received a recent brake overhaul and new tyres.
The spotless coachwork is finished in Porcelain White with a tan leather interior piped in white. This is an outstanding car in both terms of driving and its appearance.
