This is one of what is thought to be a total production of only 15 six litre AMG versions of the legendary 500E model. The 500E was introduced as a limited production model in 1991. The model featured a quad cam 5 litre V8 engine shoehorned into the ever popular W124 saloon body, creating a very rapid yet discreet hot rod, very much a successor to the 300SEL6.3 and later 450SEL6.9 models. The cars were virtually hand built for Mercedes Benz by Porsche utilising the then redundant 959 production line.
The 500E very quickly developed a devoted following from the more discerning motorist, indeed many of the worlds serious collectors and many professional racing drivers have owned an example.
AMG of course had to go one better and so developed the E60 model utilising their 6 litre V8 development of the 5 litre engine. This car was very expensive when new, considerably more money than the already pricey 500E. However upon driving the car the difference is almost immediately noticeable, low down acceleration is notably stronger – the car just never seems to run out of power. Make no mistake this is a rapid car, even by today's standards.
A special Limited model was introduced to mark the end of E500 production. These cars were finished in Sapphire Blue metallic, a lovely and unique colour to the model with a rather wacky Designo interior featuring a number of colour options. The Limited also featured the Evo2 wheel design. Virtually every option was fitted to these last cars, this one features electric sunroof, electric heated memory seats, climate control, electric rear blind, cruise control, outside temperature gauge, electric steering column and Mercedes CD stereo system with Mercedes upgrade speaker system.
This example was supplied new in Germany, the second owner registered the car in Luxembourg. The car was brought to the UK in 2006 when it was sold by us to the last owner. The car is in excellent order throughout and has covered 145,000km with a full Mercedes history. Recently the car had a major service carried out by Mercedes at a cost of £3,000. Consequently the car is running extremely well and everything works as it should. The super build quality of these cars is clearly evident with none of the looseness, rattles or squeaks one might associate with a performance car of this age. It has clearly been very carefully looked after and driven as there is very little sign of wear in the car.
It comes with all books including original stamped service book in the correct Designo leather holder to match the interior, all keys, and tools. A rare opportunity.
