| Chassis No 2501 GT Many regard the 250 Short Wheel Base as the finest of all Ferrari road cars and time spent with this example certainly encourages that viewpoint. The tight enveloping bodywork and lovely detail styling really have not been improved upon since and are indicative of how the car performs. There is a glorious sense of mechanical preciseness with a tautness and speed that one can hardly believe in a 50 year old car, indeed the feedback, wonderful noise and sheer tactility give a level of pleasure that modern car makers can only dream of. This lovely example has a continuous history with a number of illustrious owners whose association with the marque is well known. Notably the car spent some time in the collection of Albert Obrist a prolific Ferrari collector of the last century who had the means, knowledge and contacts to have work carried out on his cars to the highest standards often by the people involved in the cars production when new. This car exemplifies that ethos and is regarded as one of the finest driving examples of its type with an especially high standard of detail finish in all respects. The 74th of its type built, Ferrari 250 GT SWB left hand drive chassis number 2501 GT was sold new on the 4th April 1961 and delivered via Ferrari Dealer Luigi Chinetti Motors in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA to its first owner, a Mr Del Balso. Finished in Blu Sera (dark blue) it was delivered with two sets of seats (Lusso and bucket type) In 1970 the car passed into the ownership of Jerry L Gamez, a resident of Castro Valley, California and in 1975 was sold to Leonard M Rennick of Fullerton , California. Later that same year, in July, 2501 GT was acquired by George Heiser, a resident of Seattle, Washington State. The car was registered in Washington on plate IJN 409 and was repainted red. In 1988 2501 GT was sold to the Swedish collector Hans Thulin but belonged to him only briefly, passing into the ownership of noted Swiss Ferraristi Albert Obrist of Gstaad in May 1989. While in Mr Obrist’s care the cars body was completely restored by Franco Ferrari, receiving an all new body in aluminium alloy. Ferrari worked for Fiorenzo Fantuzzi at his eponymous and well respected Carrozzeria in Modena. When Carrozzeria Fantuzzi ceased trading Franco Ferrari established his own Carrozzeria continuing the good work. 2501 GT was painted dark blue and its interior trimmed in red leather by Luppi. New front and rear bumpers were fitted. Albert Obrist sold the restored Ferrari in 1995 to Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone who in turn sold it to UK dealer William Loughran of Preston, Lancashire in 1996. Loughran kept the car for more than ten years before selling it via marque specialist Bob Houghton in May 2007 to well known English collector Clive Lister. In June 2007 2501 GT was displayed at the Ferrari Owners Club 40th Anniversary Meeting at Silverstone where it was placed 1st in the Connoisseurs Class of the Concours, receiving the Peter Stubberfield Trophy. Over the winter of 2007/8 the engine was completely rebuilt by Bob Houghton Ferrari. During this work the period engine was restamped with the original number 2501. The last owner bought the car also from Bob Houghton and he has continued to maintain the car without regard to cost. It is in excellent condition in all respects.
