A very good example that has been restored to a high standard.
168 DFJ was supplied new on the 29th May 1961 by Jaguar dealer A J Beal Ltd of Exeter to first owner Mr J Pitts of Trews Weir Paper Mills in Exeter. It was supplied with red leather interior, reclining seats, rear picnic tables and manual/overdrive gearbox all of which it retains to this day. The car remained in the Exeter area for many years in the hands of Maurice Anning of Honiton Clyst Garage, Honiton Exeter, during his ownership it was carefully stored and the engine was frequently started. There is an MoT certificate on file from 1983 indicating 34,000 miles, when discovered by the restorer in 2001 the car was indicating 38,000 miles and the very good overall condition of the car leads one to believe that this could be the correct mileage.
The car was purchased in 2001 following a long search for a very good original car that would respond well to a full but sympathetic restoration. the pictures on file prior to any work indicate that 168 DFJ was just such a car. Following purchase the car was transported to the Midlands and work commenced in earnest. Every aspect of the car was addressed during this restoration with all parts being renovated or renewed as necessary, a large history file of photographs, invoices and correspondence documents the extensive nature of the work completed. Where possible originality was preserved, so the wonderful origin al red leather has been carefully cleaned and treated whilst the wood was repolished and the carpets replaced. Sensible upgrades have been fitted, a Wilkinson power steering system greatly enhances the driving experience as does the fitment of uprated brakes and improved cooling system complete with Kevlar fan.
This super car not only looks beautiful it also drives superbly with a fluency that indicates the quality of the work completed. the patina of the original interior only adds to the experience. The car comes with the abovementioned comprehensive history file, all tools, original handbook and a carefully concealed CD stack hifi system.
