When he arrived on Lake Iseo in 1842, a storm had destroyed the boats moored in the port. A carpenter by trade, Riva managed to repair many of the boats and earned the respect of the town’s inhabitants. He began to make his own boats, which he constructed meticulously. His son, Ernesto, who took over from him, realised that the affluent holidaymakers who came to the Italian lakes appreciated luxury yachts. Thus, after the first world war, the marque became known for luxury and high quality. Today, traditional varnished wooden Rivas are amongst the most sought-after pleasure boats, known for their elegance and build quality. The Ariston was a successful model, regularly updated over its 24-year career.According to records, the boat on offer was ordered by Bernhard Beckers, from Cologne, Germany. He later sold it to an Austrian enthusiast who gave it to the Riva workshop for restoration, before selling it in 2006 to the current owner, when the work was 90% complete. It stayed in the workshops until the restoration was finished, allowing it to be re-upholstered in period fabric, totally in keeping with the boat’s original design. It is fitted with a 350 bhp Riva engine and has sailed for about 30 hours since restoration. The boat is complete with all its accessories (covers, oars, deck equipment...), and comes with its trailer and original cradle, which can be collected by the buyer from the Riva workshops, in Italy. A comprehensive restoration file comes with the boat, which is in perfect condition to take to the water. With its splendid varnished wooden hull, attractive interior and powerful motor, it promises hours of fun on the Mediterranean coast or the lakes across Europe.<br /
