This is one of just fifty LE models supplied to the UK market. Available only in 1989, they were a special edition to commemorate the end of Turbo production by Porsche - each is numbered with a dashboard plaque. They featured the ultimate Turbo specification including five-speed box, the Special Equipment 330 bhp engine and just about every available option.
This example was one of the last LE’s to be made, it was supplied by Swinford Motors, the Porsche dealer for the West Midlands, on the 26th October 1989. The first owner, a Mr Darby ordered the car in perhaps the nicest colour combination available - Slate metallic grey with Linen leather interior piped dark grey. He clearly liked the car as it remained in his possession until 2006, during this time the car was used only in the dry on special occasions, covering only 14,000 miles in this 17 year period. Minimal use has not meant that the car was not maintained correctly. The fully stamped service book and all invoices indicate that the car was regularly returned to the supplying dealer for service work.
In 2006, after years of persuasion, a local friend and fellow Porsche enthusiast finally managed to purchase the car from Mr Darby. He continued to use and maintain the car very carefully, the total mileage rising to just 21,000 miles during his three year ownership. In his tenure the car featured in a number of Porsche journals which are with the car and was frequently featured as the finest of its type at Porsche Owners Club Concours events.
In 2009, Hairpin purchased the car and following inspection by Dick Lovett Porsche it was sold to one of our good customers where it joined his small collection of beautifully prepared Porsches. During his ownership the car has continued to be pampered being carefully dry stored when not in use and regularly serviced by Ray Northway.
This is without doubt one of the finest Turbo LE examples in existence. It is finished in a great colour combination, it has covered just 25,000 miles and is in superb original order throughout. The originality extends to the correct fully functioning Blaupunkt Berlin stereo and all unused tools, spare wheel, compressor and even the gloves supplied to perform a wheel change! Also with the car are the complete book pack including the original stamped service book, all service invoices, every MOT certificate and all old tax discs.
